Don't Put Staples in Wood!

We were hired by a sign company to make a couple of fir posts. We wanted a good piece of fir, so we hand picked it from our local supplier. We picked the piece with the least amount of cracks in it, and the tightest grain. Unfortunately we didn't notice the staples in it until we got the piece back to the shop.

Follow up:

As you can see from the picture above, the staples stained the wood. There's really not much you can do when you encounter a problem like this. We did manage to cut around most of the stains though. Below is a picture of the final product.
