How a Cordless Impact Driver Works

When the new generation of cordless impact drivers came out, some were quick to buy, while others were a little reluctant and skeptical. Impact drivers are known to be heavy and bulky. But with lithium-ion battery technology, the new drivers are lighter and smaller than ever before.

The popularity of these new impact drives is largely based on performance. They can often outperform a corded drill of equal (or even increased) voltage, and they weigh less. Most of these units are in the neighborhood of 3-1/2 lbs. They can be used on hardwood decking, and even concrete.

There are a few distinctions to be made when talking about impact drivers. They are not hammer drills, nor are they impact wrenches.
