Plastic Identification Codes

We've all seen these codes on plastic products. But what are they for? Who are they for? Should you pay attention to them? Along with the answers to your questions, we have a downloadable chart for you to keep track of your plastic identification codes (PIC).

PIC Chart

PIC's were first introduced by the Society of the Plastics Industry in 1988. The codes are used worldwide and act as an identification system for recycling companies to separate different plastics for reprocessing.

If a plastic product has a PIC on it, it can be recycled and used for other products. If a plastic product doesn't have a PIC on it, it may still be recyclable as not all regions require manufacturers to use the codes.
